Volunteers in Surat launch a campaign to protect people of Surat from deadly kite strings. Citizens launched a campaign to educate people to educate people about safeguarding themselves against glass-coated kite strings in the run-up to the ‘Maker Sankranti’.
The awareness campaign was led by the family of a man who died after his throat was slit by a kite string. The volunteers stood on roads, stopping commuters to tie protective scarves around their necks. As the near-invisible glass coated strings often inflict fatal injuries as kites fall down from trees and wires.
There has been protesting to banned class coated manja, as along with people it injures birds also.
