Rates of onions also bringing tears in eyes

Porbandar: The inflow of average 150 bags of onion is noted at Porbandar Marketing Yard still the price of onion has increased to Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 per kilogram. As the onions had become costly, so the people are facing difficulty in maintaining their budget. The crops of onion at Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi and Assam failed due to heavy rainfall so the merchants from these states are purchasing onions in large bulks from Saurashtra. The inflow of new onions in markets has also decreased as onion crops were damaged due to rain.

Daily average 150 bags of onions produced in Gondal, Upleta, Dhoraji, Junagadh and Jamnagar regions which are known as Nasik's onion reach to the Porbandar Marketing Yard, still, one bag of about Rs. 950 to Rs. 1200 is sold. As a result, onions are sold in the market at Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 per kilogram. Even though revenue earning has increased still, the price has not reduced. Hence, the price of onions has brought tears in the eyes of people.

Within a month's time, the rates of onion had increased by Rs 20/kg. i.e. from Rs. 30 –Rs. 35per kilogram to Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 per kilogram at Porbandar markets.
